Lesson Plans



                Today I will compare two different lesson plan templates to identify how to prepare a good lesson plan. There are two lesson plans and I will call the first one as a Turkish lesson plan and the second one as an English lesson plan. In that paragraph, I will mention the differences of between two lesson plans.  Both of the versions have divided into 3 parts like in the sample lesson plan that we discussed in class, but the Turkish version has more detailed information than English version. For instance, the Turkish version are giving what the teacher will say to the student during the instruction part but in the English one are not giving. During the instruction part, English one has expected tasks to do from the students, I mean the class like a student-centered, but in the Turkish one the lesson like teacher-centered. 

                In that paragraph, I will inform you on the weaknesses of two lesson plans. Both of them should have more motivation techniques before the instruction start because motivating the student before the instruction is really affect the student attitudes to the lesson. Another, in the English lesson plan, there is no information about the last lesson. I mean, the teacher should know the students level. The teacher can ask some questions like, What we did in the last lesson? What was the last week’s topic? etc. Also, in the Turkish version, there is no timeline. The student should know how the instruction goes on.

                In the last paragraph, I will talk about strength of two lesson plans. Mentioning the last topics is effective in the lesson plans, so I can say that the Turkish version has a strength from this point. Also, both plans have an introduction part before the instruction start. This is also good because knowing what will be done during the lesson and giving some brief information about that days’ topic have positive effects on students to follow the instruction. Another, both lesson plans’ evaluation parts are effective because each plans evaluation techniques are proper according to the topic.


                In here, I want to evaluate and choose a lesson plan that is more acceptable for me. The Turkish version has more point than the English one for me because I think it is has more detailed information. Although explaining the instruction part unnecessarily detailed in the Turkish version, I can say that it has more proper lesson plan.

Diversity in Classrooms

              
                In todays’ world classes, there are many students who are from different cultures. Their physical features, personal skills, dresses, the way they use the language etc. are different and they bring these differences to the class. So the teachers should be aware of this situation. They cannot differentiate the students. They should know how they contact with the students, how each student learns and how transfer the information for each student. Because, every student is individual and they have differences in their life, learning skill, reading skill, social life. That is, teachers should behave based on student expectations, because their behaviors affect students.  So the teacher has to deal with students with diverse. I can give some examples that giving immediate feedback, creating more opportunities for practicing, reinforcing appropriate behavior, rewarding, punishing etc. for dealing with diverse students. They need to think their students and find alternative solutions to deal with them. Also, the teachers should give an importance for this problem, because the emotional intelligence is too important for the students. In some points, EQ is more important than cognitive skills. It is related to individual things. Because of having specific features for each student, I can say that every student can learn, react, do differently. That’s why the teacher has to give an importance to the emotional intelligence and diversity problems in the classes and use some theories, solutions which provide alternative ways for students.

                It can be faced in many countries classes. For example, in America there are many students from different cultures and there are some serious problems. Everyone know that there is black and white discrimination in America. This situation can be also encountered in classes and the teachers should definitely find a solution to solve it at least in classes. In Turkey, there are also many different cultural people. So there are variety of students in classes. There can be students who don’t know the educational language in classes. To avoid that the government should take some precautions. The education system of the Turkey must have a sufficient number of teachers and charge them all area of the nation. With that way, all students can learn the language and continue their education life.

Teaching Life

    There are changes in teaching in ancient times and now. For example, right now technology is improved and used in classes but, in ancient times there were not any chance like that. They were just reading, writing, listening and doing their tasks. Now, I can say that the technology is main part of the teaching. That is, the technological developments affect the world, people, teachers and teaching methods. When we look at the classes which are technologically advanced, we see that the success rate is higher than the others. But there are some important problems. A lot of information in the web are wrong and has unknown writers. People don’t know how to reach right information. In short, every time has some advantages and disadvantages. Diversity, school and curriculum choice, standards etc. are some challenges for 21. Century challenges. Because of the changes in teaching, the teacher should also change themselves. They should know how to treat the students who are from different cultures and know how to solve students’ problems. All in all, today the teaching has a big importance factor for everyone especially teacher and needs some developments.

   There is an ultimate goal of teaching and the explanation of that according to me, showing students how to learn, investigate, practice and how to apply these qualities in their life. As I said in the top paragraph teaching is very important and needs many specifications. To reach the ultimate goal, there should be some qualities for teachers. Everyone can say some qualities for an effective teacher such as being warm, kind, inspiring the students etc. But this is not narrow like that. There are some personal skills that everyone generally talks about, but also there are knowledge base, social life, experiences about anything, educational background and repertoire. We also need to check and give importance to these skills.

   There are also some important factors for the teachers during the lesson. First, the teacher should treat all students equally. They cannot do any discrimination in a class and show respect their personal life. Second, they should care the personal relationships to gain the students. They also should be problem solver for any reasons. In short, the teaching started with different ways and continue with different way. If you want to be in teaching life, keep yourself up-to-date!
